Stage 3 · Arrival

On the former track grounds

The building sits on the grounds of the old Sudbury Downs racetrack. It opened on November 26, 1999, under the name OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs. Harness racing on the track stopped after October 30, 2013. It has not come back, so the property is no longer a racino.

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment took over the daily running in May 2017. That change came when it became operator of OLG's North gaming bundle. OLG's own list of casinos calls the venue "Gateway Casinos - Sudbury".

Leaving the car

Parking on the casino lot costs nothing. Beyond that, the list of published services is short. The venue names no shuttle, no taxi stand and no city bus route. It also lists no valet, no EV charging and no RV parking. There is no hotel, spa or pool on the property, so the trip home belongs in the plan from the start.

Rules at the entrance

Ontario's Gaming Control Act, 1992, s. 2(3) keeps anyone under 19 from entering or staying in a casino, except employees at work. The house rule matches it: guests must be 19 years of age or older and carry valid photo identification issued by a government.

Guests aged 21 or younger need one more piece of ID that shows their name. Anyone trespassed from, or self-excluded from, any Ontario gaming property may not come in. The venue prints these rules in French as well as in English.

First stop past the door

My Club Rewards is the house loyalty card. Joining costs nothing: staff at Guest Services sign people up once they see valid ID. Members collect points while playing the slot machines.

Bank machines (ABMs) and a currency exchange are on site. For guests with disabilities, the casino says it can provide wheelchairs, accessible formats and communication supports on request.

Questions

Short answers for the road

Is there a charge to leave the car on the lot?

Parking on the casino lot costs nothing. The venue publishes no valet service and no RV parking, so the regular lot is where the car stays.

A guest is 20: what should be in their wallet?

Valid photo identification issued by a government, plus one more piece of ID that shows the guest's name. That second piece applies to anyone aged 21 or younger, so a 20-year-old needs both.

Can a visitor get a wheelchair at the casino?

The casino says wheelchairs are available when asked. Accessible formats and communication supports are offered on request as well. For questions before the visit, the casino's phone is 705-855-7164.

Does racing still happen on the old track?

Harness racing stopped after October 30, 2013, and has not come back. The building stands on the old Sudbury Downs grounds, but the property is no longer a racino.
